"Drinking and Christianity"

I tried hard not to write on this subject today, I started, it and then thought no I will write on something else, but the Spirit told me this is what I want you to tell everyone. This world has become a place of social drinking, to a weekend of drinking. Our teenagers out partying all weekend then getting behind the wheel of a car. Take time and look at the statistics of death caused by drinking, and not only car accidents, there are those with kidney, liver disease, then you have those who persuade others to have just one beer. Do you know what someone else can handle? Are you aware of what medications they may be taking? Have you ever killed anyone? Hopefully not, but if you talked someone into a drink, you may of just taken their opportunity to be a God fearing person and excepting God into their life, so in fact you just killed them. On the other hand, maybe they were already a Christian, and you convinced them that one drink would not hurt and then they were in an accident on the way home, or took their behavior out on their loved ones at home. Nothing good can come out of alcohol, think before you cause someone else to die eternally.

It is so true that alcohol and Christianity do not go well together. As a Christian we need to be alert at all times, so that we don’t miss any opportunity to bring someone’s walk closer to God, as well as our own. When under the influence your brain does not work as fast, rather you have one drink or several.

Paul writes to the Church of Ephesus regarding the duties of the Christian, "Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:17, 18). There is no question in my mind that Paul is saying to us not to be controlled by liquor, but to understand what the will of the Lord is, and to be controlled by His Holy Spirit. It is my personal belief that it is impossible for a Christian to be controlled by 'spirits' (booze) and at the same time be controlled by the Holy Spirit.

Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Num 6:3 He shall separate [himself] from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

Rom. 14:21 clearly teaches that Christians should totally abstain, the reason being that it is good "neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak."

1 Co. 6:9-10. Here, the Bible teaches that drunkenness will send a person to hell. "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." This does not mean that a drunkard can never be saved, because the next verse says that some of the Corinthians committed these very acts before they were converted. A person can be gloriously set free from drunkenness, by receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and by following His teachings. Many people have experienced such a release! However, the tragedy is that if a person continues in drunkenness, refusing to let Jesus be the Lord, preferring rather to let king alcohol rule that one can look for nothing but a drunkard's grave and eternity in the lake of fire. "Be not deceived," the Bible, says, "the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

Christians who drink cause others to stumble (Ro. 14:21). Wine is a mocker and a deceiver (Pr. 20:1). No man who takes an alcoholic beverage to his lips knows exactly where it will lead.

I think alcohol is definitely a tool in which the enemy destroys people. I know some of you that read this won’t believe what I have to say about the topic, and it’s not me that I care if u like, it’s what the word says that matters. Please remember if you find a scripture that speaks of drinking, read the entire book. Yes, the Bible speaks of Jesus drinking wine, not being a drunkard, but please do your research before you tell anyone it won’t hurt them. Give it to God, always.

  1. drinkin isnt good in any cases whether is teenagers or adults.i known many of my family and friend killed by drunk drivers they just need a change of heart with gods help and ours we can make a difference in ones life....JR

  2. Brenda i am glad you wrote on this as I have lost a few very close friends caused by drunk drivers.You can never replace there lives so I agree no one should get away when they drink and drive. Keep up the great work Brenda.
