Genesis 19:32-36 (King James Version) 32Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 33And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 34And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yester night with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 35And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 36Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
After Lot and his two daughters escape from Sodom they take refuge in the mountains. They feared to stay in the town of Zoar, so they fled to the mountains and live in a cave. Lot’s daughters have become convinced that they and their father are the only people left on the earth (19:31). They think that the Lord’s judgment
upon Sodom and Gomorrah is on the same universal scale as was the Flood
The older daughter gave birth to a son and named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites of today. (38) And the younger daughter also gave birth to a son, and she named him Ben-ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites of today. (Genesis 19:37-38).
Confronted with what appears to them to be a large problem, they resort to their own wisdom. They may have thought themselves abandoned by God—forgetting that He by His angels was the One who delivered them from the judgment that befell Sodom. Neglecting to take account of God and His Word, and neglecting to seek His advice, the two daughters carry out their plan, only to produce more problems and greater problems than they could have imagined.
The descendants of their two sons (Moab and Ben-Ammi) become the perpetual enemies of God’s covenant people Israel. Lots daughters caused a lot of harm by not seeking out God. I was discussing this scripture with my mother tonight and it is so interesting to see how Gods children often do without thinking. Can you imagine your own child doing what Lots kids did? Maybe they haven’t had an incestuous relationship, but what have they done that goes against what God teaches? These girls had just got out of Sodom and Gomorrah, so we don’t know the turmoil that happened to them; it’s obvious they were scared that no one survived but them and their dad. Does this make what they did right? No it doesn’t. We need to raise our children to trust in God and know when He gives direction in their life. I would love for each of you to read this story and study it, over and over. The bible was written to teach us lessons and laws of God. I hope this story of Lots daughter will show you to what means people will go when they get scared.
God bless you my friends!
